Parallel Lines — Interactive Art Exhibition and Workshops — by Amanta Scott
Parallel Lines is an interactive art installation and social engagement project created by Amanta Scott.
The title “Parallel Lines” refers to the physical and emotional bars of the prisons in which we periodically find ourselves.
It also refers to how opposite sides of a road, in one-point perspective, appear to converge in the distance — just as seemingly opposing view-points can converge with a new understanding.
Inviting people of all ages and cultures to interact, create their own works and share their stories, Parallel Lines explores perception and choice; and encompasses: a series of encaustic paintings; interactive sculpture installations featuring prison beds reclaimed from Kingston Penitentiary for Women; and a pathway of eggshells upon which Visitors may walk.
Amanta Scott will be performing; inviting public participation; facilitating discussion sessions at the museum; and directing workshops in the community, bringing people together to explore: who we are, where we come from and what matters to us — through storytelling, song, and painting.
